Part 1 - Silver Clay
You Will Need: A fire brick, a timer, a blowtorch
Place the first of your silver clay pieces on a clean fire brick and prepare a 5 minute timer. Turn your torch on and heat the clay evenly, moving the flame continuously. You will see the clay start to change colour and it may even catch fire - don’t be alarmed! This is just the binder burning off! When it turns an orange colour, start your timer and continually heat the silver clay all over. Be very careful not to over heat your piece and cause it to melt!
When the five minutes are up turn your torch off and leave your silver coin to cool.
Note that the biggest pitfall with silver clay is under firing. Be thorough with this process and you will have a strong and solid piece. An under fired piece of silver clay can be brittle and break.
