You Will Need: A fire brick, steel tweezers, flux, medium silver solder, a blowtorch, fresh water, brass tweezers, pickle, a pickling unit, copper tweezers, a cotter pin (optional)
Now you can start soldering the remaining tubes onto one side of each of your frames.
Place the first of your coins onto your fire brick, use your steel tweezers to position a piece of tube up against the edge of the frame wherever you would like it, and paint the join and the inside edge of the frame with flux. Place one piece of medium silver solder on the tube where the frame meets the join.
Turn on your blowtorch and heat the coin all over to bring it up to temperature. As the tube is much smaller than the frame it will require very little heating to bring it up to temperature, so concentrate predominantly on the frame, bringing the flame to the tube only once the borax has gone glassy and the solder is nearly ready to run.
Once the solder has run, turn off your blowtorch, and quench the coin in fresh water with your brass tweezers.
Pop it in the pickle, and repeat this process with the other coins.
Tip: If you find that the tube doesn’t want to stay in place, place a cotter pin up against it. It will both stop the tube from rolling away and absorb some of the heat to help prevent it from accidentally melting.
