Is this project suitable for beginners?
This is a beginner project and is suitable for anyone new to silversmithing that want to practice their piercing, filing and soldering skills
Do I need to draw my own leaves?
6 leaf templates in two sizes (40mm and 25mm) are included as a download in this project. The leaves included are: A vine leaf, a maple leaf, a cherry leaf, a fig leaf, an ivy leaf and an oak leaf. These leaves are designed to be printed onto sticky-backed paper and used as templates for your necklace.
Do I need a rolling mill for this project?
You can use a rolling mill and a skeleton leaf to put the texture on your silver if you have one. If you don’t have a rolling mill you can purchase pre-textured silver sheet for the Cognac Jewellery Materials shop here
Do I need hard, medium or easy solder?
This project involves one solder join only, so only hard silver solder is required.
Can I customise the design?
Absolutely. Once you’ve made it once as taught, it’s easy to swap the leaf or draw your own, adjust the scale, or alter the final shape.
