Pearl Blossom Ring Tutorial - Intermediate Jewellery Making Project

Learn how to combine silver clay with traditional silversmithing techniques in this intermediate online jewellery project and make your own unique Pearl Blossom Ring.

You’ll create a silver clay twig ring using a silicone mould made from real twigs, then add delicate blossom flowers and buds formed from silver sheet, with stamen created using sterling silver wire. Finally, you’ll solder your elements together, finish and polish your ring, and set three half-drilled pearls into each flower.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need silver clay/silversmithing experience for this project?
Yes, this is an intermediate project. You’ll get step-by-step guidance, but you will find it easier if you already have some experience with silversmithing, particularly with soldering. No silver clay experience is necessary.

Do I need a kiln or can I torch-fire the silver clay?
Both options work for fine silver clay. The project covers firing with a blowtorch or a kiln so you can choose the method that suits your setup.

What type of silver clay should I use?
I demonstrate with Art Clay Silver (99.9, fine silver), but you can use 950 or 925 for this project. Just note that only fine silver clay can be torch fired and you will need a kiln if you wish to use 950 or 925 silver clays.

What are “half-drilled pearls”?
Half-drilled pearls have a hole part way through the pearl so they can be glued onto a peg, making them ideal for jewellery settings where you want a clean finish with no visible hole.

Can I use any twigs for the mould?
Most small, textured twigs work well. Choose a twig with clear texture and a shape that will sit comfortably as a ring band. The project shows you how to make and test your mould before committing to silver clay.

What language is this online course available in?
