Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need any previous jewellery making experience?
Not at all! This project is designed specifically for complete beginners. Jessica guides you through each technique step-by-step, from silver sheet to a finished necklace. If you've never touched a jeweller's saw before, this is the perfect place to start.
How long will it take to complete this project?
Most beginners complete this project in 1 hour, depending on your pace. The beauty of online learning is that you can pause, rewind, and work at your own speed. Some students prefer to spread it over a few sessions, while others love diving in for an afternoon of creative flow.

Tools & Materials
Where can I buy the tools and materials?
The project includes a comprehensive tools and materials list with direct supplier links for your region (UK, USA, and Europe). You'll find trusted suppliers that Jessica uses herself, so you know you're getting quality materials.
Can I use copper or brass instead of silver?
Absolutely! Copper and brass are wonderful practice metals and much more affordable. The techniques you'll learn work exactly the same way. Many students start with copper to build confidence before moving to silver.
I don't have a jewellers bench. Can I still do this project?
Yes! While you may want to invest in a jewellers bench further down the line, a bench peg attached to your kitchen table is perfect for getting started.
Technical Questions
What's the difference between a ball pein hammer and a regular hammer?
A ball pein hammer has a rounded end that creates beautiful dimpled textures on metal. A regular hammer has a flat face. For this project, you'll use the ball pein for texture and a larger flat hammer for stamping. Both are explained in the video lessons.
Do I need to oxidise my necklace?
Oxidising is optional! It's a bonus step that adds dramatic dark contrast to your hammered texture, making the details pop. Your necklace will be beautiful either way - it's purely a style choice.
What if I don't have an impression stamp?
No problem! The hammered texture alone creates a lovely finish. Stamps add an extra design element, but they're completely optional.
Can I make multiple charms?
Definitely! Once you've mastered the technique with one charm, you can create a whole collection. Evolve what you have learned to make matching sets or experiment with different shapes and textures.
